Silicone is a type of elastomer composed of polymers derived from quartz that contains silicon, oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon. Methyl, phenyl, and vinyl are used in the manufacturing of silicone O-rings.

Specifications of Silicone O-Rings
The temperature range of silicone O-rings is -60°C to 225°C. Temperatures can range from -100° to 300°C in some varieties.
Silicon is non-toxic and dermatologically compatible due to which it is most suitable for use in medical device and equipment assemblies.
Silicon O-rings are not suitable for dynamic applications due to their low strength, poor abrasion resistance, and high gas permeability.
Preferred Environment of Usage
Silicon O-rings are mainly preferred for use under high working temperatures due to their excellent heat-resistant properties. On being treated with chemicals they can also become flame resistant.
It is not recommended for use in concentrated solvents, oils, concentrated acids, diluted sodium hydroxide, hydrocarbon-based fuels, and aromatic mineral oil. Aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene), aromatic mineral oil, acids, alkalis, superheated water, or steam above 250 degrees Fahrenheit also have a degrading effect on silicon O-rings.
